I got my first dslr a few months back and am still learning how to use it. I have just been matched with a kid through bigbrothers... I was thinking learning photography might be a fun activity... His mom can not afford a dslr and I can't either.. If I could pick him up a cheap film slr would that work for both of us to learn or is it to different between dslr and film. Thanks
Not sure

If you can't afford a second DSLR, how are you going to afford the cost of film and processing?
There's nothing wrong with an inexpensive point and shoot to start with. If you look for one with some manual control, you can still use it to learn the basics of photography. Using a DSLR without any prior photography experience will lead to much frustration with the images you will capture and after a while it will stop being fun.
