So my uncle just got a new camera and he's selling me his Nikon d70s for 400$, im pretty excited and hes selling me a 55mm lense too, any suggestions for otehr lenses?
What 55mm lens? Nikon doesn't make a 55mm autofocus lens.
The 18-70mm kit lens that came with the D70 was considered a great value for the money. Whatever lenses you look at, make sure they start at 18mm, which is 28mm equivalent because of the 1.5 magnification factor.
im not sure what brand the lense is, but i know that its a 1.8 magnification factor, and yeah i was thinking about the kit lense, thats what my other uncle told me to get, both of my uncles are professional photographers, so its been pretty helpful

The lens is an 18-55? If so, that lens was offered as an alternative to the standard kit lens with the D70s. I have one. Not bad, but I keep wanting for more beyond the 55mm focal length. The standard kit lens would have been a better choice, but I was dollar limited at the time.
I've gotten two additional lenses since I bought my D70s last year, a 50 mm 1.8 and a 70-300 4-5.6, both Nikkors.
The 50 mm sees little use, I just got a reasonable deal on it and it's faster than the other two lenses, so it found a place in the backpack.
The 70-300 has given me some nice results (but I'm not a pro, and am easily satisfied
; your mileage may vary. The focal length is a very nice range for me, I like that lens quite a bit.
I need (want?) to pick up something with macro capability; my wife wants photos of the roses and my attempts with the current lenses have been a bit lame.
Also consider one of Nikon's Speedlight flashes; the on-camera flash is limited.
I hauled my D70s to Alaska last year (that was the price my wife had to pay to get me to go on the ship
) and it performed admirably. Any faults in the photos that I brought back were because of the photographer, not the camera.
