WHAT IS A NICE AFFORDABLE PORTRAIT LENS FOR THE NIKON D40X? I LIKE NICE BOKEH.
The D40 and D60 series cameras are limited to lenses with built in autofocus motors. But if you want to manual focus, the 85mm f1.4 would be the best portrait lens but cost $1024 at B&H. Second choice would be the 50mm f1.4. It's the wide aperture (f1.4) and the number of diaphragm blades that gives pleasing out of focus highlights.
BTW, using all upper case letters is the equivalent of shouting.

Thank you, I was looking at the 50mm fixed, however, some have said it can distort the picture. How can I avoid that?
I've never heard about distortion. The 50 becomes a medium telephoto 70mm lens. Weird angles at close focusing can cause distortion. But that's with any lens not used properly.
