Price it at a legitimate location to compare prices, like B&H or Adorama. Make sure the advertised price you're seeing of $2300 is not gray market. Gray market means non USA warranty and if it needs repairs, it turns into an expensive paperweight.

I would also suggest similar caution, and check to see if the site offering this low-ball price is in fact an authorized Nikon reseller. Another question with low-ball prices is whether the source will actually deliver product at that price or is the price being used as just bait to switch the unwary to something that would actually afford the seller more profit. That is illegal in many states but not unheard of with web and mail order sellers. You can always check http://www.pricegrabber.com and find some unusually low prices, but then when you check the source they don't have the product in stock.

When you see a price offered on camera equipement that is so far below the price quoted by companies like BH Phot, Adorama, Sevice Photo(in Maryland) you are not getting what you think you are. Its usually a bait and switch tatic where you have to buy other product to get this price or they are refurbished, grey market or shipped incomplete. The best way to deal with this type of company is to ignore them and hope they either change or go away.

When I checked out the 2300 price there was no warantee with the camera. I know if a price is too good to be true there is always areason. Monte Johnson.

I, too, have recently been shopping the D2X and from what I can tell (and the buzz I've heard from insiders) is that there will no doubt be some price adjustments post-Xmas.

I have also called several of these lowball dealers and they are quite *shakey* at best. To a tee, they all sound like snake-oil salesmen and are totally intot he quick/hard sell. Most of them "assured" me that these are not gray market, and are solid USA warrantied usints (why don't I believe them?) but they ALSO neglect to tell you that they are stripped down models without eeven the battery or recharger line is incl. in the Nikon Body only set. Hmmm...smells fishy to me...too good to be true. My hubby even tried to convince me to buy one using American Express, then if it turns out less than "solid" to return it. I'm not even comfortable doing this!!! Anyoen with me here??
