I click on the "Digital Camera Wish List" forum and then "Post" which brings up a dialogue to make a new post.
It also lists my username just above the line where I enter the Subject.

Larry, the problem is that the "Post" button is grayed out, and the permissions list says, "You cannot start new posts". It's only on this forum, the rest are OK.....
I'm going to call George on Monday. I don't have controls to set forum preferences, only to edit or delete messages.
If there is something you want to post, e-mail it to me off list and I'll start a thread for you.
That's OK - I only got into this because I responded to someone else's question about the problem.....
I'm not sure about this might have been a hiccup as it seems OK here. Let me know if there are any other problems.
i had an idea for a new feature, but the forum says specificaly that I can only reply to a thread in this section, not start a new one. Yes, the POST is grayed out.
Grayed out here as well but not under any of the other listings.
It may be that only people with moderator privileges can start a new thread.
Larry, that would make sense if it were true across the board, but it's just this one forum.....
There is no such thing as across the board. I think every forum has it's own proprietary settings.
I am using a digital camera with no viewfinder as a pocket camera. At 75 holding a camera at arms length, which is usually required at my age by the glasses we wear to see the screen, makes the anti shake system work way too hard. If the screen were hinged a the top to allow it to be rotated to where we could look down on it, we could hold the camera at belly level, like we did with the Rolliflexs. That would go a long ways to help with the shake problem. I tried mounting a mirror at a 45 degree angle behind the screen and it works great. Except, that it takes you back to the Speed Graphic days since the image is upside down and backwards.
A solution to this problem is the HoodLoupe made by Hoodman. It is a light plastic pyramid shaped hood with an ocular that sticks on the back of a digiicam and allows the LCD screen to be used as an eye-level viewfinder close to your face.
I used one of the add on eye pieces on an old Olympus about 7 or 8 years ago, but it makes the camera so large it becomes hard to carry. With one of the small flat cameras, you get a camera that is easy to have with you all the time. I use mine constantly to copy printed pages, and in lieu of my old sketchbook to record scenes I might consider painting.
Hello,
I am looking for a true pocket sized digital camera ( eg. Pentax Optio W20) which has manual features such as f' stop and shutterspeed selection. Is asking too much. Is there such a camera yet so small?
No viewfinder means holding the camera away from your body to shoot. Not really conducive to achieving sharp images.
Depending on how big your pocket is, take a look at the Nikon CoolPix P5000
