I have always loved photography and I have always used p&s digital cameras. I decided that I want to get to get into photography as a hobby to take pictures of vactions, cars, or just like anything! I have been reading alot about cameras and photography and have realized that there is so much to learn. I decided that I want to get a used 35mm SLR camera for my first camera, but money is a issue since I am a college student. I get weird looks by people, like they've never heard of anything except digital. But for me however I see myself as a puriest and can only see myself using a 35mm manual slr.
Here is where I need advice. There are no college classes on photograpy. Are there any book you can recomend? Is the Kodak book on 35mm a good place to start? There is camera excange store near me which has older slr 35mm cameras, but I have no idea what to look for to be honest or even how much a used slr film camera would cost. I would have no problem spending money on a camera because its something I want to learn and stick with because I love it. However, I am a college student so I dont have unlimted money to spend.
Here is,in summery, what I need advice on:
1) What books on general photography, espically operating film cameras and taking pictures.
2) How much is the price range on used slr camera? All I know is d-slr cameras start at 1k but have no idea about used film slr cameras. What to look for brand wise? Canon? Nikon? Why? What should I look for in a used camera other that how it feels in my hands. Thanks so much! Thomas.
