With MF cameras you don't rewind the film, you wind it forward until it all ends up on the takeup spool. Then you fold the end tab under and seal it with the attached tape (not quite as bad as licking an envelope flap). You don't need darkness for this, but subdued light is advisable, or at least a shadow area if you're outside.

You're next challenge will be finding good lab in your area that will process 120/220 film, especially B&W and C-41 process work. Come back here if you have problems with that because we may have a solution or two...

That explains a bunch, so the end of the roll seals the film.

Lucky for me, we have a high end photo store that I have been keeping in business with my tri-x pan film. They take this stuff and will even rent darkroom time.

I'd be curious as to what other sources you have for film, my local store is a bit pricey. I'm assuming that is the norm, but I wouldn't mind some comparison prices.

My biggest problem is having lost two labs in the last two years when they shut down their C-41 work, essentially because the demand for it had dropped off to the point where it was no longer cost effective for them to run it. They still do E6 and B&W, however. Anyway, I started using mail order labs, which has had mixed blessings. So far, I've used two which are excellent: Specialty Color Services (www.colorservices.com) was recommended by David Brooks on this forum, and they do great work. The lab has an association with the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA, so they're likely to be in business for a long time. The other lab I've used is Chromatics Photo Imaging (www.chromatics.com) in Nashville, which is a little closer to home. The processing prices for both are slightly higher than you might find at a walk-in lab, but I figure I'm saving more than the difference in gas money since I no longer have to drive 30-75 miles.

The downside of mail order is shipping cost and turnaround time. Both of the above labs have fixed shipping rates of $8.00. If I ship my film to them via UPS ground, that's another eight bucks, or a total of $16. (Oddly enough, the UPS ground rate is the same from here to Nashville as it is to Santa Barbara. Go figure.) This means it's really only cost effective to send several rolls at once. Besides that, the UPS turnaround time from here to Santa Barbara is something like two weeks. On my first transaction with Chromatics, I used USPS, priority mail on my end ($1.83) and had my negatives back in four days.

I read on one of the forums that WalMart outsources 120 film work to a commercial lab somewhere, but the local store said no. It would be nice to have that kind of option, but of course you have no idea about the quality of the lab in those circumstances.

I used to use a lab called, San Miguel Photo Lab, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Don't know if they are still going or not tho as haven't shot much film lately. They did beautiful work and did all kind's of extras. Can't really afford them tho as I'm on a very low fixed income. They sent me back my photo's in a plastic sleeve taped to the bottom of a box, my photo's always showed up nice and flat. Talked to them on the phone and great bunch of people. The other lab I've used with really goo success iss PhotoVision, in Salem, Ore; more great people! Going to see if I can find San Miguel again. I got out some old med format print's they did for me and they were super.

On the film, I have not had luck with the sticky tab, I have learned to carry a roll of tape or even little stickers with me to tape the roll. Better safe than sorry.

As far as finding film, check e bay and some of the larger companies like B&M. It might be cost effective to buy multiple rolls at one time with shipping.

As far as the developing aspect. I bought all the equipment to do my own, just need the time now to set it up.
