This monitor might have great potential, but it all depends on what its actual performance is and that remains to be seen. There is no information available that I could find beyond the early November 06 announcement. Samsung Sales told me full specifications will be available as soon as the monitor will be released in the near future. I downloaded the user guide (available right now in Korean only) and it shows the Pantone huey as, apparently, the calibrator included in the package. Now why would Samsung supply a entry level calibrator with very limited capabilities with a presumably top of the line monitor? If Samsung is cutting corners in the area of calibrator, then one has to wonder about other areas like the quality of the LED backlighting; after all this Samsung monitor is expected to sell for between $1500 and $2000 including calibrator as compared to the NEC LED backlit monitor for about $4000 including calibrator.

I can't find the huey technical specifications, neither on Pantone's website or elsewhere. Does anyone know where to find that information?

Considering the first available 20 inch LED backlight LCD for pro graphics (Eizo) had a price tag of $7,000 not much more than a year ago, this new Samsung is extremely encouraging as something real, and at the top edge of affordable. I have no doubts, unlike you, as Samsung's color reproduction capabilities are the best.

As long as the Huey can read the color values accurately it is what Samsung's software does with the data that really counts, and as far as I am concerned that's where the Eye-One falls down ( the reading I got with the LaCie version were accurate, but the software that created the profile did not produce an effective result.). I believe the Huey is marketed by Pantone, so try their web site for information.

Thanks for your inputs! The huey is clearly aimed at the novice user and the lack of detailed information of what it is capable of reflects that. For instance, there is no information that I can find that tells me I can select the white point brightness level, kind of a must for serious use. So, to me it looks like the huey is a mismatch in terms of sophistication and capabilities with the Samsung monitor and that causes me to wonder about the overall package. Another big question right now is if the Samsung monitor calibration is done in the monitor LUT, leaving all 8-bits per color in the video graphics adapter available and how many bits (10, 12 or whatever bits) the monitor gamma correction is. For me there are still a lot of a
open questions.

BTW David, Eizo doesn't have an LED backlit LCD monitor, but NEC does.
