Hi! I am new here and have just bought the Nikon D200. Boy am I lost!my Hubby upgraded me from the d70s b/c I am going to take digital photography in college this fall.Is there and thing you can sugest me to learn first?
Why do you think the D200 is much different from the D70s? I upgraded from the D70 to the D200 and I had no problem. Only higher quality files to work from.
What is it that you're having trouble doing?
I just feel imtemdated by it. do'nt know why but I just do.I have'nt really done anything with it. Beause I'm not a pro and was still learning the D70s I'm not sure with all that the carmera offers.Hard to really say....LOL
Take it one step at a time. Set it up on a tripod and shoot some pictures, experimenting with the different exposure settings to see the difference.

Set aside a few periods of time and go through the manual, cover to cover, with the camera in hand. Keep these sessions as close together in time as you can. As you read, try each feature as described. Digital cameras skip the cost of film and processing, so shoot a lot. Use the playback monitor to see the results of each feature. You don't need subject matter, just point it at a chair or the corner of the room. Files can be deleted later if you wish. Don't obsess on any of the features, but just try them. If something eludes you at that time, skip past it.
Then shoot with the camera for a few weeks, keeping the manual as a reference. Shoot under as widely varying conditions as convenient, and continue to use the monitor as a learning tool.
Once again do the manual cover to cover and a lot of what you may have missed in the first reading will make sense.
You will also find that any familiarity with the D70s helps - Nikons have strong family digital DNA in common. I have shot with Coolpix cameras since the CP990, and when I added a D200 last week there was a great sense of familiarity.
In many ways it is actually an easier camera to use than the high-end Coolpix cameras Larry and I have been shooting with. While every adjustment on the CP990 required paging through menus, by the time the CP8400 came along, there were quite a few buttons to give direct access. The D200 has even more for direct access and they are quite logically placed.
thank you, i did read some of the book and you are right, there is not alot that is different.I have a sitting this weekend and used it. I had a lot of fun with and there are somethings that I will need to read up on, but all in all I love the camera. thank for being there for me!
