The National Geographic division of Bogen Imaging Inc. added siblings to the
distinctive Earth Explorer family. These include a small backpack, midi shoulder
bag, and small waist pack. These bags are lightweight and pliable, yet very
durably constructed of water-resistant hemp (canvas). And they come with a heat-reflective
rain cover that does double-duty to keep gear from baking under a hot tropical
sun. Camera sections are fully padded, as is the entire shell. If you don't
want to be weighted down with too much gear yet wish to look chic, trendy--and
environmentally friendly--this may be the way to go. And the National Geographic
logo adds a nice touch. A part of the proceeds from the sale of these products
is donated back to the National Geographic Society.

Sometimes it's not enough simply to weatherproof a camera bag. Sometimes
you want it to be entirely impervious to water and the elements, and that is
what OSN has done with their new Dry line. All seams are heat-sealed, creating
a waterproof outer shell, with waterproof zippers and rain flaps to further
protect the sensitive contents. The bag comes with a removable padded insert.
The line-up encompasses shoulder bags (in three sizes) and backpacks (two sizes):
$279 (MSRP) for the large shoulder bag; backpacks are $399 for the large, $349
for the small pack.
The Pelican division of Brandess-Kalt- Aetna Group (BKA) debuted the PCS283
case as part of the RSV series of Pelican soft camera luggage. This case features
full-grain leather trim on 1680D ballistic nylon material along with molded
corners for extra protection. The main section of the PCS283 is large enough
to hold a D-SLR, lenses, and accessories. It has a removable tray with movable
dividers and will carry a tripod. Besides a recessed, locking telescoping handle,
the PCS283 also has extra large wheels for extra stability and easy rolling.
The PCS283 is carryon compatible with the messenger-type computer case removed.
Storm cover included.
Tamrac introduced the latest Velocity Series Sling Packs (Models 5769, 5768,
5767, and 5766) to fit camera systems of varying size. Sling packs are a cross
between backpacks and shoulder bags, carried on the back but swinging around
to the front of the body for fast, convenient access to photo gear without having
to remove the bag. The new bags feature Quick Flip Tops that open away from
the body for faster access. There is also a new Velocity Photo Hip Pack Convertible
Model 5765 that holds a D-SLR with a 5" lens attached, plus another lens
and flash. It converts from a shoulder bag to a hip pack with the Tuck-A-Way
hip belt. Cinch straps on the hip belt help stabilize the pack.

The Tenba division of the MAC Group expanded its popular Shootout line with
the addition of shoulder bags in three sizes (small: $89, medium: $109, large:
$149, MSRPs). There is also a new photo laptop bag in this series ($129). Each
bag sports a waterproof zipper system and fully adjustable internal camera section,
and the camera-specific bags have access hatches by way of exterior pockets.
A handy feature for anyone using wheeled luggage is the trolley back panel,
which fits over the extended handle for your carrying comfort. All Tenba Shootout
bags, including the photo backpacks, feature full weatherproof design, plus
a fitted rain cover.
After making a big splash with their Rotation360Þ backpack/belt bag,
Think Tank Photo took a second look at roller cases and came up with the Airport
International designed to fit in the overhead bin of a commercial airliner.
This bag will even hold a 300mm f/2.8 lens and several SLR bodies and more lenses.
It comes with TSA-approved combination locks for added protection. For added
security on or off the plane, the Urban Disguise makes your camera bag invisible
to potential thieves by disguising it as conventional luggage. These shoulder
bags are available in six sizes.
