I just purchased a Pentax ist DS after my Nikon FE was deemed
unrepairable. I bought the kit which came with the 18-55mm lens. It has been years since I've been in the hobby field and feel that I must reeducate myself with the basics (which I've been doing through classes and books). I would like to purchase another lens to add to my kit. I enjoy taking pictures of animals and nature. There are so many brand names and types that I don't know what would be best to buy. I was looking at the Tamron AF18-200mm. I don't know if this would even work on my camera or if someone can suggesnt a better choice for me to look into. I'd like to keep the price below $300.

I recently purchased the Pentax istDS... so far have just used the 18-55 but plan on trying my sigma 70-300 which should make a great bird lens with the 1.5x factor... the real lens I want to try is my old 120/2.8 pentax m lens... not sure what I have to do to get an old m to work on the digital, but an equivalent 180/2.8 whould be a great lens

Thanks for the feedback. With your Sigma lens can you use it with all the functions or just on manual? What are your thoughts on the Tamron 18-200mm zoom?
