New Elan 7NE

Greetings all!

I just purchased a new Elan 7NE after a few years of shooting with a AE-1P. I also picked up a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens.

Is there anybody else out there in Canon land that has done this same upgrade and that might have some helpful hints on how to make the 7NE sing?

A few questions I have right off the bat are:

- How long do the batteries last? I'll be using a hot-shoe Speedlight 580EX, so the on-board flash will be disabled.

- How well does the camera function in cold winter weather? How cold you ask? I'd have to guess that maybe 10 above would be the coldest that I'd venture out in.

- In the same vein, has anybody tried to attach a chemical handwarmer to the body to keep the batteries warm?

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now that'll be it.

I upgraded from an AE-1 to a 7NE and love it. I bought mine about 1.5 years ago and am still on the same set of batteries. (around 100 rolls of film) My meter still says the battery is full. As far as making it sing, take pictures with it and experiment. From my experience the meter is different from my AE-1. Also keep that dang instruction book with you. I still look at mine.
