I have had an Olympus c-5050 for the last few years and am looking for something new. I have enjoyed underwater photography, but now I am landlocked and don't get to do it much anymore. Anyway, when I take pictures with the C-5050 it takes forever to take another one. I lost the manual a while back and am not sure if I can adjust this or not. So I am heading to Tanzania in a few months and want to make sure I have something that can capture all the events. However, I don't want a goliath camera that screems to get stolen. Digital is definite, I would like a convenient size, but would like good quality 5 or 6 megapixels. I would also like the ability for unlimited video, and a battery that would last longer. My C-5050 doesn't last very long cause it uses four AA batteries, but it was convenient to get new ones. So if you wouldn't mind sending me some suggestions that would be very helpful. I don't have much time to research like before cause I am in dental school. Thanks.
The C5050 was my first ditital and I still use it for snaps and as a back up for the E-1.
The Oly web site offers/ed an underwater housing for it.
The manual may be available on line for downloading; originally, the extended manual was available for a fee.
Lag time has improved, they say, on newer models of all of the brands. You might be able to speed things up by shooting at lower resolution: hq jpeg rather than tiff, shq or raw, and by prefocusing on the subject. Turning off the welcome screen at start up and using rechargable batteries will help with the battery life.
Hope this helps.
