If Canon does not have any information on a new model on their web site, I really can't say anything about it, or rather if I know of some unconfirmed rumors, I choose not to repeat them. That would not serve anyone any good so I keep anything I don't know to be confirmed and true to myself.

You were only hours ahead of the public announcement and today the web is full of re-writes of the Canon press release for the 50D and new 18-200 lens.

It looks as if it may be one to put on the wish list, I wonder what will be up with the Canon 5D now?

I am sure it will be upgraded, but I doubt Canon will do so all that soon as it is not in the volume sales category of dSLR's. However, its appeal is maybe somewhat diminished with the new camera with 15 megapixel resolution. But even though Canon does not seem to be rushed by anything and waits till others show their hands, the 5D remains a uniquely inexpensive full frame dSLR, so unless the affects of this slow economy may cause more aggressiveness to keep sales alive, I'm not going to make any guesses.

Even as it is, the price on the Canon 5D keeps dropping, it sure makes me think about the present 5D before considering the new 50D. Choices, choices, what's one to do?
