New B&W Film Announced: JCH StreetPan 400

Tokyo-based street shooter Bellamy Hunt (AKA Japan Camera Hunter) has just announced his very own brand of black-and-white film. He decided he wanted “something bold, slightly grainy and with strong contrast.” Hence, the birth of JCH StreetPan 400.

Instead of having a completely new emulsion made, Bellamy started off with a discontinued surveillance film made by Agfa. He has the emulsion coated onto a transparent polyester base for what he says is “excellent dimensional stability.” Suitable for low-light shooting, StreetPan 400 should be great for dawn and dusk photography and other low-light applications.

Because of its extended spectral sensitivity, the film should also provide optimum results when shooting in fog, haze or other such conditions. Bellamy says the low granularity of the film makes it very scanner friendly. The film isn’t quite ready and JCH is making it available on a pre-order basis.

JCH StreetPan 400 36-exposure film will be sold in 10-roll packs for 9750 Japanese Yen, which equals approximately $87 USD. First shipments are expected in May or June.
