I am trying to buy the best camera for shooting sports and fast action! I simply cannot afford the D2X (right now). My question is a simple one. Will the D70s focus fast enough with the right glass in order for me to stop the action and get some quality shots? I want to photograph my kids playing soccer this season and I want the best camera I can afford. If I go w/ the D70s will I be disappointed or will it suffice if I splurge on some expensive glass? I need to keep package around the 3000.00 mark. I figure the D70s and 2 pieces of really nice glass might be doable w/ this budget. Or, should I wait and save for the D2X ?

Define expensive glass...

A zoom lens would do it if the aperture was fixed f2.8. I love my 180mm f2.8 which translates to 270mm f2.8 lens on the D70 and have gotten some great action pictures with it. In other words, using a fixed f2.8 lens will let you shoot at a fast enough shutter speed to stop action.

$3000 is a lot to spend on camera equipment. But there is no guaranty that you'll get good pictures without learning how to shoot action first. One thing is for sure though, you'll have a lot of fun practicing.
