Suggest a Nikon D50 with 18-55 kit lens or Canon Rebel XT with 18-55 kit lens. For printer, go with any Epson photo printer that meets your size needs and budget.

For $800 you can get a Canon 350D body, and for even less---as low as $650 I've seen---you can get a Canon 300D with kit lens. I'd reccommend the 300D for a starter DSLR. Spend the money you save on glass.
As for a photo printer, depends on how big you want to go. I personally have had very good experiences with HP...had a 7960 and now have an 8450 and they've produced some great photos for me.

It is a good thing you don't register because I'd boot you off. We don't need anonymous shils hyping a 3rd rate product like Ink Republic.

Although the digital cameras that have been recommended are fine, my personal gear includes a Canon Digital Rebel, I have used a couple of other cameras that produce very good results including the Minolta Maxxum 7D, and the best image quality I've obtained in this range of digital SLR's was using a Sigma SD10, which is sold for a very reasonable cost with two very good zoom lenses.

If you want photo prints that are both good quality and will not fade, the recommended Epson R800 is one I use myself almost everyday with complete satisfaction.

If digital photography is important to you when you get that next computer get an Apple Mac, it does better just like an iPod does better for most people who listen to music.
