I was just thinking how we all change our perspective on how we cature our images. Many of us who would not give up our fillm cameras have changed our views and moved to an all digital world. To some like me I already used digital imagimg to process my film images so getting the idea in my head to just move that way completely finally sank in. Digtal cameras produce nice clean images and with some work produce great BW prints for me. The more I work with it the more it becomes second nature. To those who had darkrooms many are left to collect dust and others find their way in homes of a few. Printers and paper have become so good it has opend a new world for the artist in all of us. One of the best parts are the control over the final output we have with all the editing software available today. Some say we are giving in to change but I know we are going with the ever changing world around us. I as many have very limited time to shoot what I like. Not because I have to do it to live but other things just take priority over my time with the camera. What is nice is I can grab it for a couple hour go out download the images on the computer and when there is time I can process them. With film I waited for them to be processed then spent hours scanning them and more time working on them.
I still do this for a hobby, but becoming more involved with shows and selling my work I find time is little for this. Just like trying to decide to cut matts I find it is much more cost effective to have them done when you figure the time and equiptment you need. Besides most of the sites use computer mat cutters now. I have to ask myself did digtal find me because it was a time saver or did I just value my time becaue it was limited. Or mabey It is just that good and does save time and money. I am not sure but I feel moving ahead as we have truely means in the digtal sense moving ahead.
