Ok. I am an extreme newbie to hasselblad. My background is 35mm. Since digital is on the rise and prices falling on used hasselbads I picked up a 500c, 2 film backs, right angle prism w/meter, and waist level finder for $175 at the local pawn broker. I bought this equipment without a lens.
I get my toy home and start to assemble. After I sucessfully installed the right angle prism and a film back. I was overcome with curiosity and removed the front body cap and peered through the finder and simultaneously my right index finger discovered a small button underneath the winding crank which I instictively pushed. Well this button obviously unlatches the mirror to allow light to traverse from the lens to the film. As of this writing I still have not figured out how to release the mirror. The winding crank is very rigid and does not seem to want to advance.
My questions to this forum are....
a) Will this problem resolve itself after I install my mail order lens which is expected to arrive mid next week?
b) Will I be able to install the lens whilst the camera is in this state? If not, is there a specific procedure I need to follow to install the lens with the camera in this state?
c) Have I killed the camera?
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on this situation. Thanks so much in advance for all of your help!!
Kindest Regards,
-John
