Metering Modes

When is the best situation to use Centerweighted Average Metering? I am just trying to learn my 20 D's features.

If you have different lighting conditions and you want the scene to be more evenly lit like what you have slected in the center to take a pic of.

If your subject is very bright compared to the backround like a person on stage in the spotlight then use the centerweighted metering to properly expose them. or if the subject is darker than the backround do the same and the subject will be properlay exposed and the backround will be overexposed.
