I am on the verg of buying a KM Maxxum 5D after being away from using a SLR for decades. It is also my first foray into digital. I like what I read about the 5d but have two questions. First, should I be buying a camera from a company that just announced it is getting out of the camera business? Second, I am buying the kit lens (18-70mm) and would like advice on a second lens. I am considering the KM 70-210 f4.5-5.6 and the KM 75-300 f4.5-5.6 lenses. I don't know how to evaluate a lens and can't find any on line evalustions.
It is to late to edit my post so I am simplifying it with this - should I buy an expensive camera from Konical Minolta when they are getting out of the business? DIT
Personally, I wouldn't. It is way too early to see what will happen to support for these cameras. Sony has apparently bought all the rights to KM photogear, but who knows what kind of service or repair parts availability to expect in the future. If you want/need to buy a camera in the near future, I would forget about KM.
