Hi, I am getting in to medium format photography and looking for a good camera, I found a mamiya 645 Af and I really like it. I was just wondering if this is a good camera to start out with or if it would be too much of a camera for me. Also what are some other cameras I should consider before buying. Thank you for all help.
Amanda
Amanda,I am sure the Mamiya is a good camera. Just depends what you are doing with it. I use the Fuji 645ZI. Good lens and easy to use. If you do not need to change lens and do not do a lot of portrait shots this camera works and be had for seven or eight hundred used. Auto focus with auto film advance and a 55-90 zoom lens. Which by the way is pretty sharp. Here is an attached image taken with the Fuji 645Zi Monte Johnson.
I have the mamiya 645e which is a great buy for a new medium format camera... used, the 645 AF (if priced right) is a nice camera but a 645 AFD would enbable you to add a digital back in the future... there are great prices on used mamiya medium format cameras whether 645 or 67's
Marty.
Your right the 645e is very reasonable. So is the 645AF. The 645 Pro TTL is a good choice. The 1000s is a solid camera if you can find one. Monte Johnson.
Monte,
Mamiya just announced a new 645 AFD II model.
I have watched the new mamiya 645s pretty close. It could be an option one day. I really like my Fuji though. I am tempted to pick up an old 670 or 690 as the prices drop. I will say Mamiya is a company that seems to be looking toward the future. Monte Johnson.
