If you have the equipment and it works with your current camera, why not try. Everyone that used to use Nikon extension tubes is frustrated with Nikon's G lenses that don't have an aperture ring anymore. That limits what you can use as an accessory to the front of the lens. But a reverse adapter and reversed additional lens will still work. But any Nikon bellows won't because once the camera is separated from a G series lens, it can no longer be stopped down. That's why I kept my older 60mm AFS macro lens.

Can zoom lenses be stacked?

I only have one fixed lense available....but it might just be a good enough excuse to get another one!!

Any lenses can be stacked if you can find the proper adapter. The front thread of one lens has to mate with the front thread of the attached lens.

But I would be suspect of the quality you can get using zooms and wouldn't suggest using that as justification for a new lens purchase. I've read that a reversed 20mm lens can do what you want.
