I was at a TNA wrestling event the other night and took over 177 photos to practice sports photo taking. The problem i had though, was that I was sitting in the shadows of the arena, the wrestling ring was in the light and I was too far away to use flash. The first few pics I took were with the auto set on my camera and it read as 1/30 of a sec. shutter speed. the movement were blurry (arms, legs and such). i then adjusted to 1/100 of a sec. and it was a little better, but because i needed more light to enter the camera, the photo became a little darker. I was sitting roughly 50-70 feet from the ring.
I've enclosed 2 pictures unaltered without being in paintshop pro. i don't think that i can do much with these types. I don't know how the pros can get good shots for the magazines like WWE unless they are right there next to the action.
Does anybody have any suggestions for me to help get good shots in low-light fast action sport. This photo was at 1/100 of a sec. manual focus. taken with a minolta dimage a200 digital camera. 200 zoom and i used the 1-4x digital zoom to get the action closer in some shots.
