Looking for an autofocus 35mm SLR for a beginner

OK, here goes.

I am looking for an autofocus 35mm SLR on the used market that would be suitable for a beginner (my son). The only stipulations are:

Pentax mount (we have 2 autofocus Chinon zoom lenses that I would like to use)
Programme and manual exposure modes
Reasonable cost

I have used a Minolta 7000 autofocus for years so know little about what's available with the Pentax mount. The lenses came with my wife's Chinon CP-9 (which has died) and which had no fully manual mode.

Any suggestions?

I advocate learning the fine art of operating manually! Many good books on the subject, many good websites with free info on subjects you can master such as depth of field and hyperfocal distances! Be bold and adventurous! GO MANUAL!!!

well I don't know about mounts but the canon rebel k2 is a good one, mind you it's around 200$

It might be best to look for something in the Pentax line to get the best results from the Chinon lenses. The autofocus feature may not always work with another camera. KEH (www.keh.com) is the most reliable seller of used gear and they have a large product line at reasonable prices (no, I don't work for 'em :-)).
