Unless you are a pro working directly with clients most photographers really don't have a need for the Studio version of SilverFast HDR. And the standard version of SilverFast HDR is the same price as LightRoom, and as I understand from the website HDR will now also process Raw files just like SilverFast DC, so you get an even more comprehensive application for that $299.

I just visited the SilverFast web site, and you certainly are right about HDR supporting camera raw from version 6.5 -- and even better -- my Maxxum 7D is listed as supported! I am very impressed with their web site -- very easy to navigate. I very easily found the info I needed -- unlike the Adobe site, where I found a lot of product hype and glitz, but not the specific information I was looking for. Like how well does it work for film scans? Do you know?

Although I have not tested either LightRoom or Apple Aperture extensively using the adjustment module on 48-bit raw scan files, I can say the tools for adjustment work but not altogether ideally for color correcting and adjusting raw scan files. You have to consider both of these products are really designed just for handling digital camera Raw files, not scans. And, they are really focused on the professional photographer's need to be efficient with time and being able to batch process, which is inherently limiting.

On the other hand I find SilverFast HDR and DC include ALL of the basic and advanced tools needed for any kind of color correction and adjustment without compromise. What SilverFast lacks is a slick interface and the database input sorting ease that both LightRoom and Aperture excel in their designs. But if you are not doing large professional shoots of portraits, products or fashion involving 100's of exposures, the pre-sorting features aren't all that important.

I'm far from being a pro. I've got much to learn about all this. Without experience with these programs it's difficult to know which one is the tool that I need.
