Lens Recommendations And Opinions For A Nikon D60!

Hi everyone,

I am interested in purchasing more lenses for my Nikon D60 with 18-55mm VR lens.

My next immediate purchase is probably a telephoto zoom lens, and I will mostly use the telephoto to photograph random people on the streets, buildings downtown since I live in Chicago, some animals at zoos, family portraits, and just need enough power to take a picture of someone's face or an animal up to 50 feet away at least.

Also, I am interested in more lenses, including wide angle, macro, and one or two good primes.

My budget is open for just any lens under $500. Feel free to recommend any good lenses in that area, $550-$600 even.

Please give me your opinions.

I own a Nikon D60.

What about ordering the two lens D60 kit?

It comes with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm. B&H sells the two lens kit for $849.

I would buy the D60 body alone (if available) and buy the 18-200 F/3.5-5.6 G lens. It is a little over your budget but will give you everything you need to start in one lens. I have the 18-70 and the 55-200. But having all in one lens is much more convenient. Later, you can get speciality or faster lenses if you need them.

Actually, since you already have the 18-55, you could get the Nikon 55-200 VR lens and still have some bucks left over for a fisheye or other speciality lens. B&H Photo is a great place on the web. I've bought from them for over 20 years, by phone and now the internet. They are always price competitive, quick to ship and very reliable.

If you do any wildlife photography you might want to take a look at the 70-300 VR lens. I just bought one and it's fantastic. While it weighs more than the 55-200 I needed the extra 100mm of zoom. The reviews on this lens has been extremely good from all of the sites that I have found doing reviews of it. Amazon has them for about $479 plus shipping.

I appreciate all of the help. I was really looking into the 70-300mm VR, a great lens that I could get for $480, but I could also have gotten the 55-200mm VR lens for $230. Therefore I purchased the 55-200mm, which is really decent. My next purchase, in a few months, will probably be a wide angle and/or a 50mm f/1.8.

Any recommendations for a wide angle and macro lens for under $500, also?
