With my desktop I have a LaCie monitor that is good for photos. On the road, however, my IBM Thinkpad isn't made for this purpose. However, I sometimes need to do something like a quick slideshow and am looking to get a new (PC, not Apple, I'm afraid) laptop. I am at a loss as to what models to consider. Suggestions would be welcome.

A Stewart,
Most of my photography friends and colleagues who use laptops have Apple Mac Powerbooks and find the image graphic support works well for them.
The one product that is Windows PC that also has strong graphics support, and makes their own screens and displays, is Sony. So I would suggest looking at the top of the line Sony Vaio laptops and I think you will find the specifications are good and the image quality as well.
I have an IBM ThinkPad T42P which is their top of the line. I wouldn't make critical color decisions on it, but I wouldn't make critical color decisions on any screen that changes when you move your head, including Apple laptops. I do overall corrections that I check against my calibrated system when I get home.
You may want to check out the new $89 calbration device called the Huey from Pantone. It does a good job of calibrating any kind of monitor and also adjusts setting for ambient light.
