Awhile back someone posted the following regarding a concern about purchasing a K-M Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II scanner:
>>vswich post about needed repair supports other forum and review comments about problems with the 5400 II carrier feed drive. It seems that the flexibilty/ plastic gears causes hang ups---one user opened the case ( 4 screws) and by unwedging the drive he got it working , others have returned for replacements and they worked however another user had 3 returns and gave up . I like all the reviews about the optical performance and the ease of use of the software but reliabilty scares me! Does any one have more info? Has KM done a fix or have one in the mill? Thanks <<
I referred this issue to Konica-Minolta USA through my contact with the company. Their response was their technical/repair record does not indicate a problem with the film holder transport drive. In other words no unusual occurrences of problems indicate anything that is a general defect. So the problems cited must be quite rare exceptions, and should not be a basis for concern in considering purchase of the scanner.
Personally from my experience with the scanner I would have to agree. I use the scanner and quite a few readers have informed me they have purchased it, and I have only received information of but one problem directly from a reader.
