I've been hearing about this JOBO system, but it just seems to be a motor that spins around the tubes with film in them. I'm thinking about getting some PVC pipe and maybe just rolling it back and forth. SHould I do it that way, or in circles? Does it still take the same amount of liquid if its just going round and round?
I have looked at getting the Jobo system because I would like to process my own film. A friend of mine talked about doing the same thing you want to do. I am looking forward to an answer myself. Monte Johnson.
Monte,
The Jobo film processing setup has a very good reputation, works well and efficiently. It is particularly effective with developers which can be used in diluted form and then thrown out after one development use. Homemade daptations usually do not function well because the agitation rate and motionhas to be engineered very carefully or you get uneven development and surge marks from parts causing too much agitation.
There were a lot of products of this kind 20-30 years ago and some were really disasters because the necessary R&D was not invested.
David,
That does answer the question. I figured it was pretty much that way from what I have read, but I know several people have considered the PVC thing. I have no doubt the JOBO system is very good. I have never seen one myself, but here a while back too a real interest in one so I read about them and from what I read I believe they offer quite a bit. I guess I just wondered if anyone had any success with the homemade processing systems. Monte Johnson.
I noticed your interest in a JOBO sysyem. I've had a wet darkroom for nearly 35 years. However, my wife and I turned 75 this year and are moving to a much smaller condo. Thus I'm in the process of selling my darkroom equipment, please see below.

jolo,
I would love to buy your system, but two girls getting ready to graduate from high school. and my wife getting ready to go to law school I am afraid my time has slipped by me. Thank you for you for the offer if anything changes I will let you know. Nice set up you have. Monte Johnson.
I have used the Jobo system for over 20 years--and developed
about 20,000 rolls on the CPP 2 units. They do a very nice job and the price jolo mentioned is very good if the equipment is in excellent condition. The units are actually quite durable--in that time period I only replaced one drive motor and a couple of minor parts on one machine and
nothing on the other.
The tank systems and reels are just short of being indestructable.

Dave,
I have no doubt this system is worth the money. If I had it I would buy it in a second, but just too many other irons in the fire. I am having 16+20 prints done right now which is taking a lot of my spare money. Monte Johnson.
David and Monte,
Thank you for the replies. My JOBO is in fact in excellemt condition. In the dozen years I've used the CPP-2 the only "repair" was to upgrade to the new coupling system for the lift.
In our new smaller quarters I hope to have room for a digital darkroom. Last year at age 74 I took a electronic darkroom course along with students who were weaned on computers. Presently I'm working my way up the Photoshop curve.
Best wishes,
Joe Loesch.

Does it take the same amount of chemicals as a regular tank?
I always use mine for 1 time, except for the fixer, cause it can last longer.
