Are you shooting film or digital. If digital, the LCD on the back of the camera can be used as exposure verification.

But either way, just moving closer to the subjects to take an in camera meter reading will do the same thing as an incident meter. You can have them hold a gray card for the reading before the shoot. Then switch the camera to manual and use the exposure setting that the meter gave you for the actual shoot.

I am shooting Digital . So if I understand this right the Incident Meter would be more for film camera since a digital camera will do the metering for you ?

No. Either will do the metering for you. The digital camera will give you immediate feedback.

Steve B, this is the easy down and dirty way to meter; i read it in SB.
Use a gray card and fill the frame with the card. Make an exposure in manual mode with settings suggested by the card.
If you check the histogram, the line will be in the center, straight up and down /o a varaince, if you positioned the card correctly.
You can, and probably should, do a custon white balance using the back of the gray card, it's white, to correct for the color temperature of the hot lights. Bulbs will dim and might vary in color temp as they age.
