Has anyone seen the Canon press release of July 22 that talks about a new IS technology that will benefit macro lenses? Canon states that a lens based on this technology will be available before year end. I explain why I think this will be a macro lens on my blog (http://onqpl.blogspot.com/2009/07/is-canon-set-to-release-image.html), but really, I think the conclusion will be immediately obvious to anyone who reads Canon's release.

In any case, I am (justifiably?) excited. Not because the IS will help with macro shots all that much, but for all the times when you use a macro for portraits, non-macro closeups, etc.
