Hp 9180 and ink consumption

I ended up returning my 9180 due to squeaking sound while printing. Happy to report that the replacement is silent.
Print quality is excellent.
I did find that 2 of the 8 ink cartridges were depleted when I swapped printers. 2 other cartridges are reading low. This occurred after approximately 20 prints and 2 runs at alignment and calibration.
Does anyone know whether the original equipment cartridges provided with the printer (which are labeled HP 38) are lower capacity than replacement cartridges? Most reviews suggest that this printer is pretty good with ink so I'm a little surprised.

If the cartridges that came with the printer have less ink and produce fewer prints than the standard replacement cartridges, that s not unusual from my experience.
