Well, my subject line's my main question (and I do mean to refer to "carrying", not using in a small fixed space like a studio), but there's a corrolary: do you have any tips for heavy lenses? I notice that my tipping point is somewhere around 1.41 lbs - that's the Nikkor 20-35mm that I like a lot but sometimes foresake for a prime (when I shoot 35 film). This question was prompted by wondering if I'd pay the small fortune for the Zuiko 35-100mm f/2.0; a very impressive lens, but at 3.64 lbs over a pound more than the 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 that I find too heavy for general use as it is. (The other two Zuiko 2.8-3.5 zooms, at 0.96 and 1.07 lbs, I find easy to cart around.) My sense is that a 3.64 lb lens really needs a monopod just to handle it, so maybe the solution is to use a tripod head on the monopod (I usually don't); this would add to the weight but perhaps make the arrangement workable.
How heavy a lens will you carry around?
