I'm new to SLR photography and have done mostly point and shoot at higher megapixels and zoomed in and cropped parts of the pictures for closer views due to the limited zoom capability of the P&S. My question is can a good zoom lens make up for megapixels on a dSLR? In other words, would 8mp be just as good as 10.2mp's if I don't plan on doing anything larger than 8x10 or 16x20 print outs? Since the larger mp camera's will eat up a memory card quickly with pix. I am wondering if they are overkill for my situation.
Thanks!
