HELP w/ FL-50 flash unit

I have an E500 and use the FL-50 External flash, the AF infrared lamp does not appear to be working in this unit. What should I be looking for??? Is there a quick fix for this?? I just got the flash. HELP!!!

I cannot find my manual, but I believe that the light doesnot come on unless you are in a low light situation. Check your manual.
