Help with DPI

This is where I knew I would have trouble when I went digital..... Ok, I would like to summit a image to Digital Photographers magazine. They want it at 300DPI and 8x10.
I can't figure out how to do it! I have Adobe photoshop elements. in resizing it's only PPI not DPI and when I change it to 300ppi it comes up with some weird size, not 8x10 I have photostudio 5.5; microsoft digital imaging; and a few others. All the same LOL

Can anyone help me understand? Is it the software I have or is it just me that can't figure it out? THANKS!!!!

It's PPI (pixels per inch) not DPI which is ink drops on paper.

8x10 at 300PPI is 2400x3000 pixels. Just multiply. It makes more sense if you start to think in pixels instead of inches when working on an image. I always keep my Photoshop preferences set to pixels.

John, just remember that when your working with digital images you should be thinking ppi (pixels per inch). when you are thinking about output to a printer, think dpi (dots per inch). If you can get an image at 8x 10 at 300 ppi, you are fine.
