Full Moon and Basketball pictures

I'm new to the game and have a Canon 300 EOS Digital Rebel
with a 18-200mm Tamron... I've been trying to capture my daughter playing Basketball in a gym the results so far blurry at best... I've also been trying to capture the Full Moon but so far most efforts are overexposed and end up looking like a big white fuzzy dot.... any tips or help would be most appreciated..

re basketball: in order to stop action one must use a faster shutter speed and/or flash; please note that the in camera unit may not have the power to do it at any appreciable distance. Have you tried iso 800 or 1600 on the camera? You will probably need a shutter speed of 1/250th to stop both the action and camera shake.
As to the moon: the camera meter is reading the large expanse of black sky and herefore over exposing the subject.
Since you are photographing reflected light, you want to meter for the moon, and not the background. The 200mm lens doesnot hve enough magnification to have the moon fill the frame, so try iso 1/125 @F16 and F11, camera in manual so that youi can use these settings.
