I am an old Newbie to Digital photography. I am trying to find out why my camera is not giving me any error messages, but is taking Black photos when I shoot. I have gone through all of the manual and I think I've tried every setting there is to see if it will record the image as taken, but still a black photo shows up on my LCD screen. I have changed both sets of batteries with new, I tried 3 different media cards, changed settings in all different combinations, still nothing. I tried to shoot with the nose open (the area that would be covered by the lense) to see if it is the shutter action I hear when I shoot, but the camera won't function without the lense on. The camera seems to go through the funtions as normaly preformed, it just turns out a black image with no histogram information, but the box is there as if there was something to read.
I tried to call the place I bought the camera from but they have no clue. And of corse the manufacture was sent an email but, forever I don't have. Does anyone have any idea what is happening here?
I put the camera away one day and the next day I take it out to use and it takes Black Pictures. Go Figure. Please Help if you have any resorses to info on this . Thank you.

In your post you said it was black on the lcd screen.
Just to be clear, are the images also black when you
view them in a 3rd party program like Paint Shop Pro
or just on the lcd?
Also, is the black happening on all of the settings
(ie..manual, shutter priority, aperture priority,etc)?

This may be a dumb questions but, can the lcd be turned on and off in the menu? Is the menu viewable?

How about a dummer question. From the wording of the original question, it sounds like the lens cap is still on the lens.

Is the image visible in the viewfinder?
If not, Larry nailed it!
