I currently own a Fuji S7000 and I am in the market to up grade to a more serious camera with more flexibility and control.
I love my Fuji and as I have started to do research on the options available for a higher grade Fuji camera, have read that the s5 pro is based on a Nikon body and support Nikon lenses.
Is this correct? Are they one in the same? Any opinions, and or advice for or against either.
Fuji in their dSLR cameras does get the bodies from Nikon, so Nikon hardware accessories like lenses can be used. But Fuji dSLR cameras that use Nikon bodies have Fuji sensors and all the digital imaging functions are Fuji, so there is not a digital sameness between the Fuji and Nikon dSLR models.
Thank you for your reply.
Being new to this world of photography it is nice to have the instant gratification that comes with forums such as this.
I am looking at the Nikon D200/D300 as top runners in the replacement of my Fugi S7000. I noticed that the D200 was introduced in 2006 and the D300 in 2007...is it fairly common for a new model to come out each season, beginning of the season being the fall? The D300 has the features that I am aspiring to master as I delve more purposefully into creating images that are of a greater quality.
Any foreshadowing as to wether another D series in this price range is in the works for release this year? Granted either the 200 or 300 are far greater devices than what I am working with and I will be thrilled with the challenge to master all of the minutia of options...BUT : ) if the price will come down a bit, or package options increase, with the intro of a new model it would be worth the wait.
Opinion about either of these Nikons as a first step into DSLR. Too much?
Or just big enough to grow into?
I am no particular fan of Nikon, as I think a good part of the price covers its expensive advertising, and all you get is a label that entitles you to bragging rights based on a mystique founded long ago. However, for those who have a substantial investment in Nikon lenses and accessories and derive some pleasure out of their loyalty continuing to support the brand is probably justified.
For those who are not already committed to the Nikon brand, I think there is more value for the investment in a Sony or Sigma, as well as Fuji in terms of how much imaging performance you get for your investment.
I came across a post that you had replied to some time ago, that went into detail about that very issue that you stated here to me.
That the powerhouses of the film era do not automatically make them the best choice in digital and that dollar for dollar other, lesser known or advertised, choices often make more sense.
VERY VERY helpful in terms of making me realize the broad spectrum of knowledge that I need to attain before jumping in.
Your attention to these boards is greatly appreciated...I am sure that the redundant lack of knowledge must be numbing at times.
Any advice on a good resource for learning the basics?
A digital 101 of sorts so that before I set out to make an investment toward the future of my photography I am well versed.
Mahalo for sharing your knowledge.
I sent you a private e-mail recommending a digital photo 101.
The e-mail I sent is a private message through the SB forum. Click on the "My Home" link in the header of this web site page, and you'll find the message.
