As Keelan told Australia’s Daily Telegraph, “I spend most of my days alongside or within the ocean, interpreting what I see through the medium of digital photography.”

A former surfer, the 40-year-old Australia-based photographer is very comfortable in the water even though he hasn’t ridden a board in years. “I love the raw, unpredictable nature of water,” he explains, “and share what I feel are special and unique moments in the sea.”

Keelan challenges himself to create images that tell a story or leave an impression on the viewer, and says, “When the swell is good I have to be out there with my camera. I have this incredible fear of missing out.”

Aware of the dangers he faces, Keelan swims into the sea, sometimes with a body board, and his camera inside a waterproof housing attached to a safety line.
