I am trying to find a flash system for my Rolleiflex. Now I would like to have a Lumedyne system, but as most of you know it is expensive by the time you put it all together. I watch ebay which is my only shot there. In the meantime does anyone else have and idea. I can use a SCA36 adapter and MetZ flash, but I think because it is a TLR it would be better to get the flash up above the camera. I hate direct flash. Most of my pictures are taken in good light, but even then there are times flash will enhance and open the shadowed areas. I can use a Vivitar 285 with a bracket and sinc cord. I have read about the Quantum flash, but it does not do well in the ratings. Neither does Sunpack bare bulb flash. Anyway I am oped to thoughts here. Monte Johnson.
Monte,
If you really don't like the look of on-camera flash, which I agree seldom flatters the subject, you might look at what White Lightning has to offer. Inexpensive studio-type electronic flash (they are not 'strobes'), provide enough light to bounce off ceiling or walls and get illumination that is softer and more natural looking.
Thanks David, I like what white lightning offers but I am looking for something I can use for on camera flash for flash fill but would like to get something that would produce a good even light. No real good solution here. Thats why I have looked at the Lumedyne system because of the type of coverage the flash gives. Like everything though you pay for what you get. Most of the time I shoot in natural light with good results but at times a powerful flash fill would open the dark areas up some for more detail. Right now I am just learning what the camera will do by itself. I may not see the need for flash. I know on my fuji I used it outside many times. Monte Johnson.
Any flash that can be set for auto back to itself can be used on camera for fill.
Or you can set it on manual judge what the light output should be based on distance and ISO and then set the flash to about 1/4 power, or 1/2 power and use a light modifier like the stofen omnibounce.

Thanks Larry,
I have considered what you propose here also. Which I know is my cheapest route. Monte Johnson.
Monte,
On my Mamiya 330 I use a Sunpak 120J (non-TTL), and mount it over the top of the camera on a bracket.

Ed, thanks I have considered the Sunpack 120 but in all honesty could not find a lot of information out there that was positive for this flash. For that matter not a lot of negative things either. Monte Johnson.
