I have the Nikon D50, and am relatively new to photography. I am checking into getting a flash for my camera. I know the best option would be the Nimon SB800. I do realize you get what you pay for, but, does Quantary or another brand carry a flash that will work on the D50 that is somewhat comparable to the SB800 or the SB600. In the future I would like to be able to get more flash products for portraits or maybe weddings. Something that is very portable. I am just starting out, and dont have tons of money to sink into photography. ANy suggestions?

ken spend some time reading up on flash units sothat you will be better able to make a selection. I reccommend the Kodak Workshop series entitled "Electronic Flash" as a good primer.
Outside of that, I am a firm believer in buy it right the first time, even if you have to save up for it and do w/o for now.
