Filter size

I recently purchased a FD 500 mm Canon Reflex Lens for my Canon A1 camera and am having proplems finding out the filter size. The person I talked to at Canon didn't know and I'd like to purcase a Skylight filter to protect the lens from volcanic dust that is prevelent in our windy area.

Hi Richard which 500mm FD lens is it ? there is the 500mm f8 mirror lens that takes 34mm drop in filters at the rear, or the FD 500mm f4.5 L that takes 48 mm filters
