Film complement to new D70s?

Hi all, first post here. About me: Bought my D70s last week (ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT), first slr since a Maxxum 7000 in mid to late 80's (lost to the pawn shop 1989) since then only camera has been a Coolpix 995 which worked fine for five years but just about made my head explode trying to catch my infant grandson's fleeting smile (hence the new D70s).

Anyway, that being said, I have a DX kit lens and also a couple of AF lenses, and was thinking about picking up a used film slr nikon because I like film slide/ B&W sometimes, ya'know? However I know nothing about Nikon SLR's, but anything I buy now has got to be NIKON compatible. What model number nikon should I focus on looking for if I am a cheap SOB trying to get a good consumer slr used (pawn shop, yard sale, flea market, etc.)

I appreciate your input.

Bob,

Welcome to the forum and digital photography. Good luck with the D70s! I've got a D70 and that't the best thing that ever happened to me photography wise in 48 years (ouch, that dates me doesn't it?).

For used cameras, don't forget eBay (can be a little iffy) and KEH Photo. I owned a Nikon N6006 film SLR for 15 years and loved it. Other more recent models like the N65, N75, etc. should be good SLR's as well.

Whatever unit you buy, be sure that repair parts are still available for it, just in case. Some models may no longer be servicable.

Just remmember 1 thing. Your DX lens you got with your D70s will not fit on any film camera, Correction it will fit but the image that hits the film will be cropped down significantly and the edges will be severly vignetted. I bought the D70 about a year after it was released and was never happier with a camera purchase. It floored me how well it worked how fast it wroked and how indestructable it has been for me. After about 6 months of use I longed for film and needed a new film slr. The n80 was the only choice. Feature wise it is very close to the d70. SOme of the controls are laid out a bit different but they act much the same way. Try KEH.com or on ebay Cameta Camera, They deal in new and factory refurbished.

And non autofocus Nikon lenses will not meter on the D70.
