I recently began printing with the R800 printer on my new Intel iMac. My main goal is to print panoramic pictures and some 4 by 6 inch pictures but I can get neither to print right using the intel based software. Here are the main problems:
1) There appears to be no longer a panoramic size listed so it would appear that I would need to custom make my own size.
2) Even if I can get a panoramic size to work, I cannot get the roll paper feeder to work (I used 8X10 inch, roll feed).
3) Neither the Epson 4 x 6 inch paper or the 4 x 6 inch paper size printed correctly. The Epson paper has no boarder on the bottom and the bottom of the picture is missing even though I used "scale to fit" and the left and right margins were stupidly different. The 4x6 inch size paper was better but the side margins were incredibly different.
4) The only setting that gave me decent photo prints was the "best" setting, but it was so incredibly slow that even if I could get the panoramic mode to work, it would I suspect take years to print a panoramic photo.
I temporarily solved the problem by connecting my old G4 Mac with my intel iMac in Apple Talk so that I can then see the old printer drivers from the G4 on my iMac (G4 > System Prefs > Sharing > check "Printer Sharing"; System Prefs > > Network > Ethernet > AppleTalk and enable that on both machines; Then on the iMac go to a print dialog box or Printer Utility and
> > choose to add a printer). Now I get the perfect 4 x 6 inch and panoramic prints that I need.
Does anyone have any better suggestions to use intel macs with Epson printers? Epson claims that it is partly a problem with what Apple has in the new Intel Mac software although I would have thought that the Epson software people would be able to figure this out better. Help!

If your new Mac is one with an Intel processor, then go to the Epson web site to the driver download section, there are new drivers for the R800 and many other Epson printers for the new Intel Macs.
Good idea, but I did try that first as suggested by Epson-- that did not help. The Epson help people were rather vague as to what is going on. I suspect that I will need to really pin-point problems and give the Epson help people a call so that we can move through the problems together. I am hoping that someone else might have experienced this same problem who could straighten me out.
The procedure for removing the old driver and installing the new one are very specific, and if not followed precisely, then the new driver does not take effect fully, which seems the likely reason you are having problems. I would suggest downloading and re-reading the instructions to remove the old driver and then re-install the new one, and go through the process again.
OK thanks--I will try that again, but I did follow the detailed instructions that Epson sent me before. Like you say they are very specific including several restarts. I also now have a long list of other things to try that Epson sent me when I get my courage up.
I did reinstall the printer driver and when I got to the point of printer set up utility > Printer browser> print setting I remembered that I had used previously the "Epson Stylus Photo R800--gimp print v5.00 beta 2" instead of
Epson SP R800. Now everything I checked so far works fine, including
the panoramic modes. Thanks for charging me to think about this again.
Glad to hear you got it to work. I too had a problem and was tearing my hair trying to get the Printer Utility to recognize and load the new driver, Then finally I remembered, it won't recognize a new driver unless the printer is connected and turned on!
Enjoy.
Don't all these problems seem silly when we find out the answers!
Considering the complexity of details involved that I don't remember to do something essential makes me feel I am silly, but then I remember I'm 73 and that;s supposed to be an excuse for not remembering.
