I'm considering purchasing a Rebel XTi and am trying to decided whether or not to get the body only and then get a different lens (e.g., a 28-135) sometime in the future. I have an EOS Elan IIe with the stock Canon EF 28-80mm lens. Will this lens work okay (for the time being) with the Canon digital SLRs? And if it will work, what are the drawbacks/issues to be considered? The price of the body only on the XTi is already a stretch right now, so a new lens probably will be a few months off (at the earliest). Thanks for any feedback offered.

All EOS lenses past & present will work on all the new cameras. I had two lenses from a film Rebel that I currently use for my XTi.
The only drawback is that some of the old lenses (such as my 80-200mm) have been remade today with special lens coatings to prevent interior reflection. These new redone lenses of the past are given a "II" or "III" designation when you purchase them today. I haven't experienced the interior reflection on my old EOS lenses yet and from what I understand it only happens during the brightest of exposures. Regardless, I will be upgrading these as my wallet permits.
