I was wondering if the effective resolution on my digtal slr is say 10 mp.
Is this only the size if the file if you shoot in raw or is there a digital slr camera that will take a jpeg file larger that 3 mp?

Shawn,
The actual resolution in megapixels applied to a digital camera is determined by the physical pixel count of the area array sensor fitted in the camera. The use of the term effective would only be appropriate if the actual capture were different than the physical count supports. Currently even point and shoot cameras have sensor arrays which have a pixel count exceeding twelve million, and dSLR's even greater than that.
