I'm an amateur photographer in the process of studying photography more seriously to become more knowledgeable and hopefully start doing low-budget portraits and weddings for friends. I have some nice equipment, and my current camera is a Nikon D80.
I've been researching tripods lately and quickly learned that the consensus is "you get what you pay for." However, while experimenting with an old Slik U8000 (a video camera tripod) I've had for a long time, my pictures seem just fine. I realize that it's not the most convenient for changing what I see through the lens, but I wonder if the QUALITY of my shots will be affected significantly by upgrading to a pro-level tripod and head? I can't compare my shots side by side using the Slik and a high-end tripod, so it's difficult for me to tell.
Has anyone ever done this? Can you truly see a difference in picture quality in a studio or indoor environment by using a more expensive tripod when shutter speed is one second or less?
