Digital Photography References

I know very little about photography let alone digital photography. I have been told I have a very good eye for it though. I am soon to return to the US from a 7 month deployment and would really like to Educate myself without having to actually take a class. Would you recommend some reading for me?

I would start with Kodak's Joy of Photography and get the basics down then move on to almost any digital photo book. Good luck and hope you return home safely.

I second the "Joy" motion.
Next on the list would be a S. Kelby book on your edition of Photo Shop.

I recommend Understanding Exposure (revised edition) by Bryan Peterson. Someone recommended it to me (newbie here also) great book well written!
